Reality check

Life has a way of taking us through a reality check just when
we start to feel comfortable.


This is a true story that happened in Yaounde last week.
Tina (not her real name), was getting set for her upcoming wedding in November 09.
No detail was left unattended. Her bridesmaids gowns needed some extra buttons and
she reckoned a quick dash into town (a few minutes away), probably didn't warrant
an announcement to her family. The journey to, was uneventful. She quickly found
what she was looking for and headed back to the park. This driver already had a
full load and was about to kick off when one of his passengers indicated she had
to step down and answer an important call. That is how Tina found herself in the
car. Without warning, the motor bike running ahead of their car, fell down for no
apparent reason. A truck was coming from the other direction and the driver swerved
the car out of his lane, in a bid to avoid crushing the motor bike man and his lady
passenger. The lady was killed on the spot, and the rider lost one of his legs.
The truck driver had now lost complete control. Tina's car was crushed beyond
recognition and a bus directly behind their car was also damaged. In total, about
16 people died on the spot, including all in Tina's car, the lady on the bike and
about 9 in the bus...


Though I grieve, I take solace in the fact that Tina had made peace with her
master and savior, Jesus. At her funeral others testified of a life full of peace,
gentleness and true commitment..


The world is gearing up for the celebration of Christmas ( and some would like
to insist we use the politically correct name – holiday seasons!) come December.

Businesses are unveiling their Christmas season wares and you're probably making
all sorts of plans, for December ( -In fact I am scheduled to be best man for my
friend Kenny's wedding and MC for another!). Truth is, God alone can tell how
tomorrow's going to look like and if you are going to be needed in His script.

Have you made peace with the master? Is your life 'buried' in Jesus?
You can buy life Insurance here but eternal insurance and assurance can only
come from calling on Jesus to be the Lord and master of your life.
You can do that today, while there is grace.

Hello, How bad do you want to achieve your goals? The key word is sacrifice! "In the race to determine, who will own the 21st century,   I will place my bets on the givers, not the takers…"                                                                        Lee Iacocca (Where Have all the leaders gone?)   No one likes to sacrifice; man generally prefers to be at the receiving end! How bad, though, do you want to achieve your goals? No true lasting and note worthy achievements came by without someone letting go of something precious to them. Good education, health, success, love and most of the things we take for granted in life, come at a price called sacrifice! When you put your hands (and your heart) on the plough of goals, you'll possibly loose some friends, make new ones. Some uncompleted projects will suffer. You may even experience rejection and at times become lonely. These are withdrawal syndromes from a life that has no meaning! Psychologists have sought to label us as sanguine, choleric etc...but how bad do you want to achieve your goals? You need to make the extra effort to move beyond psychological strata you've been boxed in and reach with renewed energy (Isaiah 40:31) to achieve your goals. St Paul put's it as follows, "…To the Greek, I became a Greek, and to the Roman I became a Roman…"! OK, Facebook, is a massive phenomenon, keeping friends 'connected'?!  Huh?! What was life like before Facebook (or even cell phones)? Were we an unconnected people? There's a lot of good to be said about FB however when you become FB addicted (you have the constantly need/urge to check back to see what Q's posted on their status) you're in trouble! May be, its high time you not only sign-off but 'kill' your profile and focus on real life- that is where goals are achieved! I heard recently 'peer reviews' are a major source of stifling progress in the medical field. Do not let 'peer review', peer pressure, or the desire to conform and please others, kill your goals as you loose sight of the real issues. Yes the risks of making sacrifices are many and for a while you may feel real pain but when the results start coming in, you won't remember the pains. The Ultimate Sacrifice is recorded in the pages of the book of life, The Bible. "God so loved the world that He gave…God sacrificed His son (as a ransom), for man's sin. Millions today, live with a hope and peace. It all began when Jesus died and rose again. Look at the trends in movies, music, arts etc and it becomes clear that, there's a battle going on. A battle for souls! God's desire is that men should receive His son (basically, sign up spirit, body and soul to the 'redemption bill'), hence power ("…as many as received Him, He gave them power, to become SONS of GOD." John 1:12 ) to live victoriously.. with a promise of eternal life. If you're feeling angry right now, then you probably need to make some overdue changes! How bad do you want to achieve your goals? It all starts with accepting the ultimate sacrifice, who will give you the power to sacrifice! Aloha (Hawaiian for hello!) Around this time last year I was part of a team on the beautiful Hawaiian Island, Maui exploring leadership at a deeper level. One of our modules consisted in learning how to make the best use of Audio Visuals in our presentations. I was especially thrilled with the opportunity to learn about movies, hands-on, starting with story boarding, different types of shots, the rule of thirds etc. We then split up to 2 groups and I was made the film director of my group! I used to think the main character was the most important person in a movie, this conception flew straight out of the window almost immediately we started work. My Brazilian, Pakistani, Indian, Ghanaian, etc mates, didn't make things easy for me, but we finally came out with a beautiful script and I still get a hearty laugh watching my humble beginnings as a director of 'Fresh Fire' studios! Most important, I now understand the role of the director is key! it is challenging too. If actors decide to do their own thing, the whole thing becomes a mess (hey I am talking from experience!). The same can be said about our relationship with God. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as our Counselor and guide, not just to face the challenges of this day and age, but also to make heaven. How many times however, do we go our own way, ignore His warnings and promptings? We want to be in control, 'clicking on ignore' until we are in some messy or difficult situation? I challenge you to sit down and evaluate your level of obedience to the 'Director'. Shoot a movie without a director, and you're guaranteed to have 'crap'! Isn't it high time you let go, and let God? Seek guidance from the One who should be directing your life. Moving forward in the victory, God has given us.

Key passage: Luke 11 v 14-28

It is of key importance, to maintain what we have attained through faith. Whatever Jesus has done is permanent, since He is eternal. When we take a look at the beautiful Technical schools the government of Canada offered to Cameroon, we can almost immediately (sadly) also notice the lack of maintenance of the same.

HOW do we MAINTAIN?

Scripture Focus: 

Luke 4 v 13… The devil will come back at an opportune time.

Luke 10 V20 …It is more important your name is written in heaven

Luke 11v24-28 ….When an evil spirit comes out of a man…

 

Throughout the month of July, we focused on prayer and ended up with deliverance. God has shown us how to pray authoritatively, receive deliverance etc. The devil however, is faithful to his business of 'going around'! Do not let your life be an 'Airport' for him.

 

LESSONS FROM THE VERSES

A.  A relationship gives authority (If you have believed, you do not have to be afraid of demons).

1.       Authority does not come from declaration only but from an authentic relationship with Jesus.

2.       Victory will continue, not by some magic formula but through a right relationship with Jesus

Discuss Acts 19V 13-16

 

B.  IS YOUR NAME written in heaven?

1.       There is a book of records in heaven. Those who turn away from the Lord will be forsaken (Jer 17v13).

2.       We have the privilege of an assigned personal guardian Angel, when we are in a relationship with Jesus and have our names written in heaven (Psalms 34 v 7)

 

C. HAVE CHILDLIKE Faith

     Moving forward with Kingdom authority & power is simply through childlike faith (Luke 10:21). Please note that victory comes only because we are related to the ALMIGHTY God and not because we are mighty men ( 1 Cor 1 V25-30). Our lives are hidden with Christ in God (Col 3 v2). Stay in the rock, the Ancient of Days.

 

D. BEWARE of DECEPTION.

Deception is satan's greatest weapon (John 8v31).

1.       Don't believe his lie. Jesus died, rose again and defeated the devil. Stand on that truth (Eph 6v14, 1 John 3v8, John 10v10, 1 Pet 5v5)

2.       Don't believe the lies of the devil that your past is still the same. The enemy comes to steal, but Jesus came to set the captives free!

Highlights from the Sunday message July 26, 2009

 

Title: Deliverance from wrong foundations (Dr Daniel Shu).

Key Passages: Ezekiel 18 V 1-3 ; Lam 5v7 ;Exodus 5 V 7-6

Introduction: What kind of foundation are you laying for your children? We need to destroy the wrong foundations we inherited so it shouldn't affect us, but we equally need to lay down a good foundation for future generations.

There are 3 main sources of wrong foundations namely:

1.       Inherited family traits

2.       Inherited family curses

3.       Inherited demonic family curses.

A. Inherited Family Traits.

The story of Abraham and his descendants illustrates this perfectly. Here, we see sterility running as a major family trait in Sarah, Rebecca and Rachel. Although Abraham was separated from the wrong foundation of Idol worship etc, Nahor wasn't. The consequences visited the family to the 4^th generation. Medically, there are certain diseases which are inherited such as; Sickle cell anaemia, Diabetes, Hypertension affecting several generations.

B. Family Inherited Curses.

The story of David and the tragedy of his family, vividly illustrates a family inherited curse. Incest in David's family, can be traced right back to his grand father Perez (a fruit of the incestuous relationship between Judah and his daughter in-law, Tamar)!   David unfortunately, built a further wrong foundation (immorality) for his descendants, by committing murder and adultery. If we do not severe (separate) ourselves from wrong foundations, they will affect us!

C.  Family Inherited curses.

Mathew 27:24-25 (curse on Israel). Curses occur when a family practices or is involved in: witchcraft, idolatry, traditional rites, Satanism and Initiation rites of any sort.

Children's teeth set on edge (manifestation of wrong foundations).

1.       Sexual manifestations: immorality, incest, pornography, homosexuality, prostitution, sexual pervesion

2.       Financial problems – wastage (spend thriftiness), stagnation etc

3.       Premature and untimely death, dashed hopes, miscarriages, divorce etc

No longer us this Proverb

Gal 3:13-14, 2 Cor 5:17, Heb 2 V14-15

Jesus has accomplished the victory. We need to know it , Accept it and claim our deliverance for this to be Incorporated in us!

Keep your deliverance!  

 

Exercise:

1.       Discuss how David's act, affected his family negatively.

2.       When you look around, can you see instances of wrong foundations at work in your family, or another family you know about?

3.   Pray for each other.

Key Passage: Mathew 17: 14-21

 

Faith is necessary to exercise authoritative prayers. Although faith is not seen ("small like a mustard seed"), we can see the effect and victory of faith, implying, we see FAITH in ACTION.

 

There are however, 2 prerequisites for AP:

a. Faith

b. Fasting

 

Deliverance is not only from demons, but from satanic activity and influence equally. Heb 2:14 -15; Rom 7:21-24. From these passages, we can identify 3 domains from which we need deliverance:

 

1. Sinful habits

2- Wrong foundations

3- Demonic activities and their consequences.

You're the man

Hi all,

 

Everyone loves gold (well almost). How do we get such a valuable piece of metal though?

 

Gold that is extracted from the earth's crust contains a presence of silver to the extent of about 10%.To make gold acceptable and usable, it becomes important to remove this silver. Refining is the most spectacular part of the process. Silica, borax and soda ash are added to the dried precipitate, which is heated in a furnace. This results in a miniature smelting operation. On the top of the melt is the slag containing the impurities, while the molten gold's greater density causes it to sink to the bottom...(http://www.miningbasics.com)

 

As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise (Prov 27 verse 21).

 

What is our attitude when we receive praise? Praise, it seems, should serve to bring out the finest in man, rather than destroy him. The later seems to be more frequent than the former. It is recorded, that Moses spoke with God as a man speaks to his friend yet, he was called the meekest man alive!

 

 It is Ok to feel good about our achievements and even decorate our office space with all our trophies and certificates. The danger though, is in how your mind perceives this and how you handle that. All said and done, all we have, all we are, all we've achieved and all we will ever achieve is completely dependent on God's grace. Why not acknowledge His blessings therefore, as coming from Him alone! 

 

My wife made this profound observation after returning from her cousin's funeral : ' Dear, man is nothing!". As she saw the lifeless body of this youngman, it suddenly dawned on her, we are completely sustained by God's grace alone.

 

I invite you to consider, your relationship with the ONE, that many have tried to wipe out of their minds, but still have to face in Judgement. It all begins with seeing yourself trully as you are...

 

You are worthy of His sacrifice!

What could be worse than being blind?

Hi there, This jumped into my spirit as I walked to work today. Helen Adams Keller (June 27, 1880 – June 1, 1968) was an American author, political activist and lecturer. She was the first deafblind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.(wikipedia). The story goes, that she was once asked what could be worse than being blind..and Helen responded, in these words..." Physical blindness is not a problem. What is sad is having eyes, but having no vision!" (Paraphrased.) In 1999, Keller was listed in Gallup's Most Widely Admired People of the 20th Century.She had a vision. And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Have mercy on us, O Lord, thou son of David. And Jesus stood still, and called them, and said, What will ye that I shall do unto you?They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened. So Jesus had compassion on them, and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.( Mathew 20v30,32,33,34 KJV) Life lived out of Jesus is plagued with heavy blindness.Our sight can be restored. In this day an age, we are all encouraged to be broadminded. That's Ok..just be careful you're not being broadminded on THE narrow way! What's the point? Simple - The religious leaders in Jesus' time were blind to who He was and held many bound too. Jesus has compassion on those who recognise their limits, step up to Him and say, I need sight (vision). Your choice today will determine your tomorrow. Choose the time tested, unfailing truth. Jesus, should not just be a subject for debate - He is real to those who CHOOSE to make Him master in their lives. He will help you deal with the sin factor and give you vision. And when you receive vision, remember, you need to follow Him! Peace Inno
