Public speaking

Hi,

I used to think I knew so much in Public till yesterday. I have been a little slow on updating this blog, because I got really busy with a presentation (that is another story).

I volunteered for a minute presentation. As I left the hall, it dawned on me I really wouldn't have time to work on my speech..besides, I (as leader of my group), had to co-ordinate our activities, which we had to present the very next day. Talk of trying to co-ordinate a group of Men (old older than yourself), from 5 different nations (Cote D'Ivoire, Reunion, Togo, Cameroon and Rwanda). Well we needed prayers really bad..and most especially answerd prayer.

I want to testify that God does answer prayer. He made all beautiful and our presentation was wonderful. Now I can see more clearly, how God can make something beautiful out of a mess.

DDAY
Back to our topic, I sat with my heart pounding hard in my chest as if this was the first time I was ever going to give a public speech. Man, I surprised myself, with this feeling. The First presenter went through and was given a tap on the back. My turn now (and it was being video taped!). Phew. I stood there all wired and hit the topic. All my 'upper-cut' phrases disappeared and I had to make do with what I had scribbled. As the thoughts rushed though my mind, I fumbled through some words, tried to take the crowd in, keeping everyone interested and responsive! The bell went, indicating 2 minutes were already gone. I had to round up. How did it go you may ask. Not bad at all. The negative and positive comments came, but in it all I learned my lessons on PUBLIC SPEAKING.

It was a good day.

Being disciplined

Is not at all the easiest of things. We're half way through and it's been a challenging 2 weeks. 2 more weeks yahoooo! The last few days have been loaded on dialogue on Buddhism, Hinduism, Next Generation and some concluding Audio Visuals (the use there of). Our video project was good..at some stage I hope to youtube it. I have been planning to take a good rest, but it seems that just ain't a workable concept here. I have been sleeping late (bad), and been under a little stress as I try to strike a balance between studying, keeping in shape and working on a project with my French colleagues ( as team leader, this is the most difficult group, I have ever led!!!). THank God tomorrow is Sunday. I am looking forwards celebrating Jesus with my Hawaiin brothers..the name of the church is unpronounceable but I hear it was founded in 18something. A picture of us worshiping on Friday morning. Love ya

Aloha ke akua

Yesterday, my team (792), learned a litle bit more in the necessity of the use of Audio Visuals in our presentation. We learned about movies..ie starting with story boarding, different types of shots and the rule of thirds. We then split up to 2 groups. I was film director of one of the groups that is why you don't see me in the movie...I now undersand the most important role is the directors..it is challenging too. If actors decide to their own thing, the whole thing becomes a mess.

Same can be said for our relationship with God. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as our Counsellor, guide etc. How many times do we go our own way, pursuing the world agenda, till we get drunk, then try to be good and feel saved on Sunday? Evaluate yourself against our benchmark, Jesus. Seek the guidance from the one who should be directing your life..He has the master script and knows what is best for you.

Discipline

If there is one word that has been ringing in my head for these last 2 days, that is 'DISCIPLINE'!

The importance of discipline in the life of a leader cannot be overemphasized. Discipline takes us from the bed of mediocrity to the place of excellence.

If you remember, walking in EXCELLENCE, is an expression of the image of God (Genesis 1). When God created us, He gave us dominion over the earth. Since the early days of man unfortunately, we seem to want to dominate only other men.This is wrong.

I challenge you to take excellence seriously and strive to reflect the image of Christ. Be disciplined, with your time, finance etc.

Show some discipline,

Inno

P.s By the way I am the session president today..interesting. You should see pics of me and my room mate preciding God willing tomorrow.

Sunday 20 July

Aloha Ke Akua,

Hope you are doing good. We had a good day today. First was Church. We visited Calvary Chapel a wonderful (beach) church located in Maui. The worship was great, and the message was excellent. The Pastor taught from John 4 (the story of the lady at the well). Yes she came to get something temporary, Jesus proposed to give her something eternal. She sought to know more about Jesus and Jesus addressed the main issue in her life ie her need to change from trying to fill her life with emptiness (the guy she was living with was not her husband)! She got embarassed and tried to change the subject! Long and short of the message, go deeper, desire more of God. Don't be a spectator...take bold steps. How far you can go is only determined by you!

Later on we stormed Walmart..the rest is history..a few pics attached.

Today

A few thoughts to ponder on;

A true leader should be disciplined even when no one is watching.

A true leader needs to reflect God’s image.
What is the image of God that is present in us and/or what is the image of God lacking in us. We have to have dominion over this earth (Genesis 1). God is not in total control if you continue to be in control of your own life. In God’s kingdom we have destiny. When God created man, we were supposed to be perfect, have Honesty (truthfulness), and have Integrity (consistency and sincerity with no deception or pretense).

Do not become hardened because some one abused your kindness for example. That is not God’s image.
Gen 1:26

a-Our Image;

1-Reason
2-Personality
3-Intellect
4-Capacity to relate
5-To Hear
6-To See
7-To peak

Do people have access to you?

b-Dominion over the earth.

We need to be in control of what is happening.

Are they grey areas in our lives? A disciplined leader does not have grey areas. It is either black or white.

Sexual morality (1 Cor 6:9-10)

Personal discipline prevents moral failure ( Prov 5: 3-23)

A disciplined leader finishes what he has started.

What are the unfinished issues in your life right now?

Handling money, power and position.

A part of our whole disintegrates when we have problems with sexual immorality, money power and position.

Our lifestyle should be quality not relative.

Take charge and be disciplined

Consider this

Dear Leader,

I say it without any doubt, that you are ONE. Take a ride and lets explore this together;

1.One of the greatest king of all time, Solomon, Israel's most wise king once said;

                Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it:

                except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

                                                                                         Psalms 127:1

In todays lingo, if you're counting on your own strength, you're dumb  indeed!

A few days into my 25 days training with some remarkable leaders in developing nations from Asia, Africa and South America and yes I am being constantly challenged.

From my mate , a successful businessman from SA, who left wonderful opportunities of making millions of Rands to my pal from Vietnam a well established Architect my basketball mate from Brazil and my room mate the gentleman from S. Korea..these men have just one thing in common..Jesus is their saviour and in control of their lives.

Today, there's a lot of talk on the win-win model in terms of positioning, yet we overlook, dismiss and postpone the most important of all positionings ie addressing the problem common to all man (sin and disobedience to God), and responding to the offer (forgiveness of sin, eternal life in Christ Jesus and promise of the Kingdom).

Friend, this to me is the ultimate win-win situation. The beginning of an exciting experience, full of challenges but with a sure end.

You can argue words, but you cannot disprove experience. In this age of Post-Modernism (the exaltation of the I) you thread dangerous paths if you do not see the hidden message behind the message. Distractions to keep you trapped abound, but the truth is still NOT relative and will never be. This TRUTH has a name, He is called Jesus and today He is offering you

1.Forgiveness, if you confess (come to me you who are weary...I will give you rest)

2.Salvation with the promise of God's kingdom when you receive Him.

What will you do with this, accept, dismis, postpone again or just plainly ignore? Tomorrow may never be yours friend so take his decision now. Receive God's forgiveness today and accept his gift...Eternity is a long time to be wrong..

I hope the word from God's messenger Isaiah be true for you...

And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.

                                                                                                     Isa 27:13

The trumpet is blown..over to you.

Lion Forteh on the golf course

His Last Command Our First Concern!
And what was this last command, Mathew 28 Verses 19-20. Jesus asks us to go and make disciples of all the nations.

Aloha ke akua,

Hope your life is filled with love and sunshine today. Yes today was a busy day.
First, we had to lead worship (I was actually just doing PowerPoint and singing from the background).It was a blessed time. Then Rafael, led us in Devotion, subject You are the salt of the Earth. Now this was the most clear explanation I ever got on this passage, it is clear to me God was using Him..wanna ride? Mathew 5:13 says seeing the needs of the people, Jesus went up the mountain to pray. What a model.

Jesus prayed when Her saw needs!!!

Today we would more probably jump into strategising, call consultants, look at the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats before taking a leap. What about the mountain? Now what was the context of this? Earlier on, the Bible says, You are the salt of the Earth...and we know that God also declared, whereever you set your foot, you shall possess.

Application?

Job 6:6, Leviticus 2:13 and Mark 9:49-50 talks about salt and its various uses. Ie

1. That which is tasteless cannot be eaten without salt.
2. Salt was used to accompany offerings
3. Salt generates additional heat. Jewish women used to put it under their pots when cooking, inorder to generate additional heat. At some point this thermal property vanished (hence the expression the salt lost its saltines), and the salt was thrown out and men trampled upon it.

As salt, You need to be;
1. Holy (purity)
2. a preservative (do not be silent). Preserve biblical truth.
3. Flavour to life.

Next we looked at the HI vision, baically, this is a leadership training to equip leaders and help them fulfill the great commission. 2 John Haggai (pronounced Ha-gi-yay) comments that touched me the most are

1. Lord enlarge me with the concept of your vision for my life.
2. Jesus i the only answer to the individual dilemma.

We later looked at the church in the contemporary world. Quite interesting. Write to me if you want the notes on this and consequent sessions.

Kind of tired now..Just from playing Basket Ball, Ping-pong and baby-foot! I should really cut down on the number of hours I pend on sports and the Internet.

Be Blessed as you contemplate your relationship with Jesus and your reaction to his Last Command and Charge!

15 July

Aloha,

Hope all is Ok your way. This was a day for 'housekeeping' for us. First we took individual photos..and all were clad in one form of raiment( business or traditional. This was an interesting exercise which seemed to also help to bond the group as people got interested in trying out the outfit of the others. The Nigerian and Vietnamese wears seemed to be the champions.

After this, we had an official welcome from Raf. Men..who spoke from the New testament concerning Jesus command for Peter james and John to follow him up to the mountain. The responded to this call by going up. He pointed out that we responded to the Masters call (that is why we are here)..and explained that as the Jews saw the mountain as the place for meeting with God, we're on our own Mountain in Maui. Most interestingly he continued by explaining the bit that says anyone that will be a disciple of Jesus will experience His passion (persecution, death and RESURECTION..alleluya). The Cross we need to carry said He, means showing our Christianity to the world around us. Not just talking but living it.

In conclusion, Rafael quoted Isaiah 40:3 and told us the story of the eagle ie how it renews its strengths and can hence live longer. for this to happen, it need to get rid of its beak, claws and feathers..A very painful process!!!If it doesn't, it dies. I am blessed. We next had house keeping, and concluded the day with rehearsing songs for the next day, meeting with our various prayer group members and Workout! (I did quite well at baby-foot and am getting more stable at table tenniss hmm.

To God be the glory great things He has done,
Mahalo

Day 1 learnings

Aloha

It is hard keeping up with work at Practical (www.associate.com/groups/practical ) but I am going to try. The 14th was an official welcome party for us all. Over 50 leaders representing at least 15 different nations (I think).

We had a lot of spare time after breakfast so my room mate, Emmanuel (from Pakistan), decided to explore Kihei a little bit..our goal, the Shopping center.

Nice place just round the corner from the HI estate with a handful of stores. I managed to buy 2 books and got a 20% discount for being on the training (nice).

Later on, we had Games which were meant (i believe), to be ice breaking events and get-to-know your neighbour event. At the end of the game my team (the bible brothers) were declared the winners while the blue team was declared the champions! Wha I know though is that we won out of the 3 events...

Learnings?
1. Teamwork can't do without if you intend to advance, make progress and achieve goals.

2. Diversity we come from a diveree background, laden with rich experiences that make each of us unique in a way as a tool for the master to use in accomplishing the great commission. It may be challenging to accept the views of others but RESPECT is the key word even as you say your convictions.

In conclusion, a word that excited my spirit this morning (5/07/2008)

..In that day, saith The Lord of hosts, shall the nail that is fastened in the sure place be removed and be cut down and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off; for the LORD hath spoken it. Isaiah 22v25

no situation our lord cannot resolve.
Blessings

Aloha

Aloha,

Maui at last. It is 12:53 (Maui time). God be praised.
The Journey from Yaounde to Maui seemed like a never ending one...let ride;

Firt I managed to arrange for a driver (through Simon, to drop me at the Nsimalen International Airport on Saturday 12 July. That was 6pm.

Then the flight to Douala on AF was ok and on time, but we probably spent about 1 hour in Douala, leaving around 10pm. Douala Paris was a mot pleasant flight and I didn't get any sleep. The long wait (3hrs)for the Paris Seattle connecting flight was really tiring. Then 10hrs on another flight. This Russian lady(Yana), slept for about 8 of those hrs. Again, no luck for me..no sleep. We arrived Seattle, cleared Immi and waited for a few more hours before jumping on the NWA for the over 5 hours flight to Hawaii. Got here around 7 pm. Was met by a welcome committee at the HI offices and Cal (a volunteer) showed me my room (216). Dinner was good but I longed for nothing more than a good shower and some rest. This i when I met my room mate lun from (india)..picture below.

Today, we had intros with the Resident Coordinator Rafael M. A show around the property then together with emmanuel and Lun, a visit at the local shopping Mal in Kihei.

Ok thta's it for now..I'll get back with more relevant info soon.

Haggai, DDay -7!

Yesterday was Sunday and a day of mixed experiences for me.

First we had the wonderful message titled 'I'll fear no evil Psalm 23v4 from Brother Emmanuel. Highlights included;

1. God's staff comforts and directs us and His rod deals with the enemy.
2. Evil has it's root in sin, and the beginning of sin is giving in to temptation
3. Temptation is from 3 sources;
a - The devil (e.g. he tempted Jesus to turn stones into bread)
b- The world
c- Ourselves

4. Temptation is not a sin. It only becomes sin, when we allow ourselves to be carried away.

We rounded up by looking at God's promises in Psalms 118...God's Mercies endure forever. I also shared from Isaiah 40: 29-31. Renew your strength by waiting on
the Lord !

Ok shortly after this, as I drove home, the police stopped me. I confidently looked into my pocket for my Drivers licence and other car documents. Guess what, no drivers licence.

Well..our police are popular for one thing..corruption. I'll end here.

Word of advice, do not give room for the devil to have a hold in your life.

 Will be in touch again..

..By the way Deron, Ariel and their mummy are doing good. small cold..but they'll be fine.  Linda is doing a few errands this morning for me pre-Haggai!

Getting set DDay -9

Alright, I have not always been the best when it comes to getting things ready to go to anywhere!
Basically, I have always done my packing 1 day to the journey or on the morning of the trip! Today was suppossed to be a day of rounding up many things but it seems I just couldn't get the ball rolling.
First, I had to babysit, then mounted up some beds and go to the office to get a colleague sorted so he can work.

I have now postponed both events I had to do this morning for Monday. By God's grace I'll be able to make it.

I looked through the papers yesterday, to ascertain what needs doing before Saturday...was rather tired after the sports I deed.

Deron and Ariel are doing better now..

Got to go
